The past few years has seen the explosion of the craft brewing industry across the Saint John area and, most recently, right here in our region. The Rotary Club of Hampton has come up with a great new fundraising idea. On Saturday, September 14th, the Club is hosting a Hops Festival at the Hampton Seniors Resource Center featuring eight local craft brewers. According to Hampton Rotary Past President Pat Hanratty, “many of us had been to similar events in the past, had fun, and said ‘let’s try it in Hampton!’”
Participating in this inaugural event will be Hampton Brewing Company and Gridiron Brewing from Hampton, Hammond River Brewing Company, Long Bay Brewery and Foghorn Brewing Company from Rothesay, Sussex Ale Works from Sussex and Loyalist City Brewing Company and Moosehead Small Batch Brewery from Saint John. As an added bonus, Yip Cider from Kingston will also be attending. “A 5oz sample glass will be given to participants” for tasting, says Hanratty. However, “no alcohol products will be available for separate purchase, but some beer vendors will have swag items for sale.”
What would a beer tasting event be without some great beverage enhancing snacks? There will be a variety of pepperoni, chips and pretzels available. In addition, Beer Daddy’s BBQ will on site with some tempting wood smoked pork and beef treats available for purchase. Debit machines are not available, so the BBQ treats will be cash only.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Rotary Club of Hampton with their fundraising efforts, funding high school scholarships, food bank donations, projects such as park lands that they have purchased for the Town (the town square land and Spooner’s Island Nature Park), and others.
Tickets for the Hops Festival are $45.00 each and can be purchased by e-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Tickets can also be purchased from any Hampton Rotarian or by calling Pat at 654-0304.
