Long time Hampton resident and community volunteer Steve Drost has been an “above the knee amputee’ since 2010 as a result of trauma suffered in a motorcycle accident in 1982. He now needs a new prosthetic leg, at a cost of $77,909.00. After two and a half years of advocacy with his health insurance provider, Blue Cross agreed in December 2019 to provide $46,327.20 toward the purchase of the new prosthetic. Steve has applied to War Amps who will contribute $4000.00 towards prosthetics, leaving Steve with a balance owing of $27,581.80.
Steve’s union, CUPE 1418, is leading the charge to raise funds to assist Steve in this incredible fundraising venture. Organizers are planning an auction (date not yet confirmed) and are currently accepting items for this event. You can also make a financial donation by mail to Saint John CUPE office, C/O Steve Drost Donation, 208 Lancaster Ave. Saint John NB E2M 2K9, or by etransfer to firstname.lastname@example.org.
